Hyderabad doctor Shashi Kumar got drunk, ended his life
Hyderabad: Dr P. Shashi Kumar had consumed a lot of alcohol before he shot himself. He had called his wife at around 9.30 pm and said “I am sorry”. “The last call from his phone was to his wife P. Kanti. He apparently said ‘I am sorry’ before cutting the call,” said Moinabad inspector G. Srinivas.
After firing at his partner and fleeing on Monday evening, Dr Kumar went to the farmhouse of his friend S. Chandrakala, a widow of a retired Army colonel at Khairathabad.

“He told her that he was stressed due to various reasons and he wanted to relax somewhere. Chandrakala, who was not aware of the shooting, took him to her farmhouse at Nakkalapally in Moinabad and returned home,” said an investigation official.
At the farmhouse, Dr Kumar started consuming alcohol alone, which he had already bought.
“He told the farmhouse’s watchman to bring some chicken and other edibles. After fetching the food, the watchman consumed some alcohol and slept. He did not hear a gunshot and did not know about the suicide till our party reached there,” said the inspector.

There was no TV in the farmhouse and Dr Kumar could not watch any news. “The news was already on TV that Uday was not dead. But Shashi Kumar did not know about it since he could not watch TV in the farmhouse. That’s why probably he thought Uday was dead,” said an official.
Meanwhile, after returning home, Ms Chandrakala, who had earlier worked in the medical field, saw the news on TV and learned about the shooting at Himayathnagar.

“She called up Panjagutta police and informed that Kumar was in the farmhouse. The information was further passed on to Cyberabad police. A team from Moinabad police and Central Zone of Hyderabad went to the farmhouse. But by the time we reached, he was already dead,” said a police official.
Police found a one-litre bottle of whisky near the body. “Very little alcohol was left in the bottle. He must have drunk a lot before ending his life,” an official said. Police has recovered the gun and sent it to the forensic lab for tests.
