What was the idea behind MMA Matrix and the reason to bring global fitness standards to India?
MMA Matrix is a gym co-founded by my brother and me, with our flagship in Mumbai and 14 running franchises in India. The idea was to bring world-class infrastructure and quality to our country, providing a supportive environment with top-notch equipment where people can be motivated. Unlike many commercial gyms, ours has a unique, personal, and supportive atmosphere – it's like a boutique gym. We are an inclusive space catering to kids, youth, elders, and even people with injuries, with trainers knowledgeable in rehab training. We aimed to bring this world-class infrastructure to India, creating a space that's not just about fitness, but also about community and support.
How do you balance your entrepreneurial ventures with your public persona and fitness advocacy?
Honestly, I don't really feel like I need to think about balancing my entrepreneurial ventures with my public persona and fitness advocacy because everything I do goes so hand in hand. Fitness and wellness are a lifestyle for me, and professionally, any brand I associate with aligns with that. I try to stay true and authentic to the identity I've created, and it's not about forcing a balance – it's just my life. Everything fits together naturally, and that's what makes it work.
Can you share some key lessons you have learned from your experience on Khatron Ke Khiladi 14?
It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and experience. I had to muster the courage to say yes and just go with it. The biggest takeaway for me was realizing that when I set limitations on myself, I held myself back. But when I removed those limitations from my mind, I was able to immerse myself and reach my potential. The mind is such a powerful tool – if you're able to remove limitations, the body follows, and you're capable of anything. It's a very mental game, and I believe that's a key lesson I'll carry forward.
Did your family support your decision to take part in KKK?
My family was absolutely excited about my decision to participate in KKK. There was a bit of hesitation and nervousness due to the risks involved with the stunts, but that quickly turned into pure excitement. Their positivity and energy really rubbed off on me, and it made me even more excited for the journey. Despite the potential risks, they were very supportive, and their enthusiasm was infectious.
How do you promote body positivity and empowerment through your fitness brand and social media presence?
I think our gym, Matrix, promotes body positivity and empowerment by being very inclusive and creating a safe space that focuses on both physical fitness and mental well-being. We cater to people of all ages and abilities, from kids as young as five to elders with potential injuries. Our trainers are knowledgeable in creating a supportive environment for each individual's goals. Personally, I'm a huge advocate for balance – I've never believed in fad diets or extremes. As long as you're within a certain limit in your nutrition, training, and overall lifestyle, you'll be in a healthy space. And I truly believe you're never going to look as good as you feel, and you're never going to feel as good as you look.
What's the one thing you swear by when it comes to fitness?
My fitness mantra is that consistency is key. It's not just about training, but consistency in every aspect of life. Some days you might not feel like working out, but you can balance it out by being more mindful of your nutrition. If you lack in one area, pick up the slack in another. Consistency in any aspect of your life will get you closer to your goal.
How has your approach to working out changed?
Now that I'm in my 30s, I've realized the importance of mobility and stretching. In my 20s, I used to rush into workouts without warming up, which could lead to injuries. Now, I prioritize giving extra time for mobility, stretching, and recovery – it's crucial for longevity in fitness. Everything you do outside of actual training time is important for staying in the game long-term.
How has having Tiger Shroff as your brother influenced your fitness journey?
I'm so blessed to have Tiger as my brother – he's like a cheat code for fitness living with me. He's a superhuman when it comes to fitness, and he truly embodies it every single day. I learn a lot from him, and he's been my inspiration and motivation to immerse myself in this journey. I've always been vocal about how much he means to me in terms of fitness.
How did your childhood and sports background shape your approach to fitness?"
We didn't follow our parents into fitness, but they were mindful of nutrition growing up, never keeping soda in the fridge. For my brother Tiger and me, sports played a huge role – we were big on sports in school, and it instilled discipline and focus in us. Sports were the core of what started our fitness journeys, teaching us values that allowed us to make fitness a lifestyle.
What qualities do you admire most about your father Jackie Shroff?
I think what I really admire about my father Jackie Shroff is his Bindas attitude and nature. He's someone who, even in tough situations, can find the silver lining and focus on the positive aspects. I really love that about him because, personally, I'm a bit of an overthinker and tend to jump to the negative quickly. He has this ability to balance me out and make me see the good in things, which is something I truly admire and have learned from him. Every day I spend with him, I learn something new, and his perspective on life has been really valuable to me.
How has your family's spirituality influenced your own beliefs?
I've become more spiritual now, being around my family who are very spiritual. It's intriguing and it rubs off on you. I think spirituality is a huge aspect of controlling your mind and emotions, and once you're able to do that, you're a more powerful being. Being around them has definitely had an impact on me.
What's next for MMA Matrix?
I'm focused on growing the MMA Matrix brand, which is my passion. People relate to my authenticity, and that's helped the business grow. We have Matrix Fight Night coming up in July or August, which is getting global recognition. I'm also exploring the reality TV space, and after my experience with Cutthroat, I know that's where I belong. I'm more comfortable being myself on screen rather than acting, so hopefully, you'll see me in that space soon.
So is there a Big Boss happening?
Not a Big Boss. I think Big Boss is very difficult as a concept and it's all right. But I just don't think that world's for me, but the reality space for sure.
