Flu symptoms could be early sign of herpes, experts claim
Researchers warn the flu could be a sign of herpes, the most common sexually transmitted disease (STD).
This occurs when the immune system attacks the virus, the Daily Mail reported. Two viruses trigger the disease. HSV-type 1 causes blisters on the face and HSV-type 2 affects the genital area.
Experts want to stress on the importance of detecting the early signs in order to treat the disease, which does not have a cure yet.
According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, most people infected with the disease experience common symptoms.
Early symptoms of herpes:
* Fever
* Nausea
* Headaches
* Muscle ache
* Swollen lymph nodes
* Burning feeling in the genital area
* Pain when you pee
Herpes left untreated can lead to complications particularly for pregnant women.
