The Surat-based Biomatiques Identification Solutions, is the first Indian company to create affordable iris scanning systems. It was also one of the first small enterprises to be partially supported from the government's Rs 10,000 crore startup kitty and to also receive quality certification by the Department of IT.

Biomatiques' achievement is to make iris scan technology as cheap as finger print technology: Its basic model e-Parakh EPI- 1000, costs just Rs 7500 on Amazon -- a fraction of what imported systems cost. CEO Tamaal Roy, created a software called Pehchan for face identity building, that is used by Indian Police and CBI. From there began his interest in iris scanning.
