Tamil superstar Suriya has hit out at online trolling culture, urging his fans to ignore social media negativity and stay away from toxic fan wars.

Speaking at a meet-and-greet organised by the All India Suriya Fans Club in Chennai, the actor addressed the growing toxicity surrounding celebrity fandoms online. His comments come shortly after Bollywood star Salman Khan also criticised online trolls, calling them “parasites”.

The actor urged his followers not to react to provocative social media posts. “When we engage just because some fool has made a post on social media, we end up looking like fools too and getting hurt,” he said.

He added that trying to change a troll’s mind or make them understand logic is largely a waste of time. Instead, he encouraged his fans to avoid rivalries with other star fandoms, stay positive and focus on their own goals.

Salman wants action against AI deepfakes

After taking on trolls and toxic paparazzi culture last week, Salman Khan, on Bigg Boss 20, turned his attention to the growing problem of AI-generated content. “AI has progressed so much that it is very scary,” he warned. He also spoke about AI-generated videos featuring celebrities, including himself, and called for strict action against those creating them. “Those kind of people should be put behind bars; until a few get arrested, this won’t stop,” he said, adding, “There has to be censorship on social media and I will take this up very seriously.”

“We have the contacts, so we can find out... but what about those with no contacts? What will their neighbour or followers think?” he said.
