Shah Rukh’s Generosity Gives Marathi Film A Huge Boost
King Khan writes off Rs 42 lakh bill
Shah Rukh Khan has waived a Rs 42 lakh bill to help a regional film release in theatres. Director Pravin Tarde sought the help of Red Chillies Entertainment, Shah Rukh Khan’s production house, to prepare a Digital Cinema Package (DCP) – the digital format needed to screen movies in cinema halls. The makers could afford to pay only Rs 12 lakh, but the final bill was a massive Rs 42 lakh. And that was SRK’s cue to step in.
Shah Rukh told his team, “Waive off their bill... We can sort out the payments later. If it’s a good film, give them the DCP.” Thanks to this gesture, the film reached theatres smoothly. It became a huge commercial hit, crossing over Rs 80 crore at the box office. The director says he will be forever indebted to SRK.
