Speculation is rife that producer Namit Malhotra and filmmaker SS Rajamouli could join forces to bring the Mahabharata to the big screen. While there is no official confirmation of a collaboration, the possibility has set tongues wagging in the film industry.

The buzz picked up after the global premiere of Ramayana in Los Angeles, where Malhotra, the film’s producer and CEO of Oscar-winning VFX company DNEG, praised Rajamouli for taking Indian cinema to global audiences with Baahubali and RRR. When a fan asked Malhotra about the possibility of collaborating with Rajamouli to bring the Mahabharata to the big screen, the interaction triggered discussions online.

Adapting the Mahabharata has long been one of Rajamouli’s dream projects. In past interviews, the filmmaker has spoken about the epic’s immense scale and complexity, suggesting that doing justice to its narrative would require a multi-part cinematic series. However, the director remains occupied with his existing projects, making it a long-term ambition.
