Prada’s Rs 84,000 Kolhapuri Sandals Set For 2026 Launch
The Italian luxury house teams up with Indian artisan bodies to craft a limited-edition line using traditional techniques
Prada is set to launch a limited-edition sandal line inspired by India’s iconic Kolhapuri chappals, marking a sharp pivot from the cultural appropriation criticism it faced earlier this year. The move follows an MoU signed on Wednesday with Maharashtra’s LIDCOM and Karnataka’s LIDKAR at the Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai, enabling artisans from both states to craft the sandals using traditional techniques.
The collaboration blends heritage craftsmanship with Prada’s high-end design, with 2,000 pairs planned for the first release, each priced around 800 euros (Rs 84,000). The collection will debut globally in February 2026 across 40 stores and online.
Highlight: The brand will be purchasing 2,000 pieces of Moje Puda Kapshi in its year-long contract. The partnership brings together Kolhapuri artisans from Maharashtra and Karnataka and includes a three-year training programme to help them upgrade their skills.
