Superstar filmmaker Rohit Shetty, recently in the news over alleged threats to his life from the underworld, has now landed in legal trouble for passing off his private luxury cars as police vehicles.
The act came to light through the Mumbai Police, causing considerable embarrassment to the filmmaker.
“It is not really Rohit’s fault. Despite repeated requests, he has not been provided security by the government. With a threat looming over him and the shooting of Golmaal 5 underway, Rohit cannot afford to stay at home due to lack of protection,” a friend said, justifying the use of the director’s private vehicles as police cars. However, such an act is considered illegal and is punishable under Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
