At Milan Fashion Week, brooches appeared across collections in almost every imaginable form. For fashion designer Rohit Gandhi of RGRK, the brooch’s comeback reflects a broader shift in how consumers are approaching fashion. “Fashion today is increasingly driven by individuality and versatility, and the brooch naturally aligns with that shift. Unlike many accessories, it isn’t confined to a single way of being worn. It can be styled with various categories of clothing, allowing the wearer to reinterpret it in a way that feels personal,” says Gandhi.

While runway shows often bring renewed attention to an accessory, the brooch's return is rooted in something more enduring—a growing appreciation for craftsmanship, thoughtful styling and pieces that transcend trends. “We wanted to create sculptural brooches that feel contemporary, versatile and timeless, adding character to a garment without overwhelming it. We see the brooch becoming an enduring styling element rather than a fleeting seasonal statement," Gandhi adds.

Younger Gen Pinned


The success of the brooch, however, may ultimately depend on how younger shoppers choose to wear it. For decades, brooches carried associations with occasion wear and family heirlooms, but designers are now stripping away those traditional labels. Today’s versions are lighter, bolder and often minimalist, designed to complement everything from oversized shirts and denim jackets to structured handbags and sneakers. Gandhi believes reinvention is key to attracting younger consumers.

To resonate with a younger audience, the brooch has to move beyond its traditional association with formalwear and become a natural part of everyday dressing. The modern brooch should be sculptural, lightweight and versatile enough to move effortlessly across jackets, knitwear, shirts, handbags, hats and even footwear. Its beauty lies in the fact that every wearer can style it differently, making it a subtle expression of personal style rather than a prescribed fashion statement.

Jewellers are also noticing a gradual increase in curiosity around statement pins. “Brooches are becoming conversation pieces again because they allow customers to personalise outfits in ways that traditional jewellery sometimes can’t,” says Simran Kakkar, head jeweller at a luxury fine jewellery boutique. “We’re seeing growing interest in contemporary designs featuring clean lines, coloured gemstones and sculptural forms that appeal to both younger buyers and collectors. The modern brooch feels less like a vintage keepsake and more like wearable art.”

Retailers say that if celebrity endorsements and social media styling continue, consumer demand could rise significantly over the coming months.

Fashion history has shown that runway favourites don’t always translate into everyday wardrobes. As quiet luxury continues to influence fashion and individuality becomes increasingly valuable, the brooch may be perfectly positioned for a meaningful comeback. Whether pinned onto a sharply tailored blazer, clustered on a handbag or worn unexpectedly on knitwear, it offers a fresh styling opportunity that feels both nostalgic and contemporary.
