Phantom Studios Files Rs 250 Crore Suit Over ‘Queen 2’
JioStar and makers of the Kangana Ranaut-starrer have been charged with infringing IP rights
Phantom Studios has filed a Rs 250 crore lawsuit against JioStar, alleging that the latter had not secured necessary rights, or reached a settlement with them before proceeding with the sequel to the 2014 film Queen, of which they own a 50 percent share.
The ‘unauthorized use and infringement of intellectual property rights’ case has been filed against the Reliance Disney venture in the Bombay High Court.
Phantom Studios asserts that its prerogatives include the right to develop any sequels to the Kangana Ranaut-starrer, and has claimed damages.
The shooting of Queen 2, directed by Vikas Bahl, who also helmed the first part, was completed in June. The suit was filed after discussions between the two sides failed. Queen 2 makers and JisoStar representatives have not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
