Nagarjuna Talks About Akhil’s Rural Role
Lenin was delayed due to post-production work amid other challenges
As Akhil Akkineni prepares for the release of his big-ticket mass entertainer Lenin, his father, actor-producer Nagarjuna, speaks of the vision behind the venture and the challenges it faces.
“We’ve left no stone unturned to ensure Lenin speaks to the masses,” says the star. Directed by Murali Kishor Abburu and co-starring Bhagyashri Borse, Lenin is crucial as a comeback vehicle for Akhil, given the string of setbacks the young actor has faced! Set in the volatile Rayalaseema region, the story follows the protagonist Lenin as he navigates intense family rivalries, political friction and a dangerous situation involving his best friend and love interest.
The film’s USP is its connectivity with the audience, Nagarjuna stresses, adding that Lenin is set in a village and Akhil plays a son of the soil.
“I believe that until an actor plays a rural hero, he doesn’t connect fully with the masses, at least in Telugu cinema. Akhil has transformed into a rural hero in Lenin. He is not a larger-than-life hero, just a man of the masses,” he shares.
Lenin is special and I don’t speak only as a father,” Nagarjuna asserts.
The film was delayed not only in connection with post-production but also due to a freak accident suffered by Akhil, requiring months to recover.
