‘No more serious films with Akshay’
Director Priyadarshan vows to stick to comedy only after his latest film Haiwaan flopped
Haiwaan has reportedly emerged as one of Akshay Kumar’s lowest-grossing films, prompting director Priyadarshan to draw a line on their collaborations: no more serious subjects.
The filmmaker, who has delivered several comedy hits with Akshay, including their latest collaboration Bhooth Bangla, says the failure of Haiwaan has convinced him that audiences prefer the duo in the comic space. “The failure of Haiwaan, which I accept gracefully, proves again that audiences don’t like us to do serious subjects together. This is not the first time I’ve failed in a non-comedy genre with Akshay. Many years ago, we did a film called Khatta Meetha, which starred Trisha Krishnan with Akshay. That too had under performed. I don’t think the audience wants to see us in the non-comedic space,” says Priyadarshan.
