Karan Johar has no financial stake in Brahmastra 2, as the franchise has officially transitioned away from Dharma Productions.

Director Ayan Mukerji moved the franchise out of Dharma Productions while retaining the baseline Intellectual Property (IP) to his ‘Astraverse.’ Following the release of the first film, he partnered with new financiers to bankroll the highly anticipated sequels.

Namit Malhotra, the producer of Ramayana, has stepped in to produce Brahmastra 2. His involvement secures both the massive funding and the visual effects pipeline needed for the sequel.

The Karan Johar-Ayan Mukerji split was reportedly caused by friction after the release of Brahmastra Part One: Shiva. Karan had invested hundreds of crores over eight years under the impression that the massive setup costs would reap structural profits across a unified trilogy under Dharma Productions. However, Mukerji shifted focus to direct War 2 for Yash Raj Films before eventually moving the Astraverse IP to Malhotra’s production banner.
