Ilaiyaraaja Honoured by Australian Parliament!
Maestro felicitated with commemorative stamp marking 50 years in music
Legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja was honoured at the Parliament of Victoria on September 22, marking his 50-year journey in film and music.
The centrepiece of the ceremony was the unveiling of a special ceremonial postage stamp to commemorate his golden jubilee. The stamp was released by Hon. Enver Erdogan MP, Minister for Finance, Government of Victoria, along with other parliamentary officials.
The honour coincided with Ilaiyaraaja’s 2026 Australia tour, with concerts scheduled in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
In his acceptance speech, the Maestro said he was deeply moved that someone born in a small, remote village in Tamil Nadu was being recognised in an Australian parliament. Music knows no borders, he said, praising the Indian diaspora in Australia for preserving its cultural roots.
