Rumy Jaffery is on Cloud Nine! The writer-director has managed to secure the much-in-demand Akshaye Khanna for his next project. Significantly, Rumy had cast the actor in Gali Gali Chor Hai in 2012, when Akshaye’s career was at its lowest ebb — and apparently, Akshaye doesn’t forget such kindnesses. After Dhurandhar, “suddenly everyone wants to see more of Akshaye on screen. But he’s not the kind to grab offers just for money…He worked sparingly before 2025. He will work sparingly after Chhaava and Dhurandhar,” says Rumy, adding that he has had the script ready for the actor for the last five years, and it has now been reactivated.

Insisting that he had not changed one bit despite his recent success, Rumy says, “logon ki nazariya badal gayi” (it is people’s perceptions that have changed.) He stresses that Akshaye had “put the same level of commitment into Chhaava and Dhurandhar as he had for Gali Gali Chor Hai.”

Asked if it was hair loss that was behind the lean phase, the writer-director agrees that Akshaye’s refusal to wear wigs had indeed cost him all the lead roles that came his way. “But more than that, it was his transparency when it came to people and work that slowed him down,” says Rumy. “He won’t work with people he doesn’t like even if they offer him `100 crores. Pasand ya napasand uske chehre pe saaf dikhta hai.”
