Hyderabad: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Sunday described blood donation as the highest form of service to humanity, saying there could be no greater gift than saving a life through voluntary donation. He urged citizens, particularly youth, to make blood donation a regular practice and help build a healthier society.

The Governor was speaking after inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp organised by the Telangana branch of the Indian Red Cross Society at Sanskriti Community Hall in Lok Bhavan on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day. “Blood donation is not merely a medical intervention but a symbol of compassion, humanity and social responsibility. Every drop of donated blood offers hope, courage and a chance of survival to patients in need,” Shukla said.

Highlighting the significance of charity in Indian culture, he said voluntary donors who come forward to save the lives of strangers without expecting anything in return are the true heroes of society. As President of the Telangana Red Cross, he praised their efforts as embodying the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family.

Referring to this year’s theme, One Drop of Humanity – Give Blood, Save Lives, Shukla said blood donation transcends barriers of caste, religion, language and region, reflecting shared values of humanity. He reiterated his commitment to building a TB‑free and drug‑free Telangana, stressing that the goal could be achieved only through coordinated efforts by government, educational institutions, voluntary organisations and civil society.

Special Chief Secretary to the Governor M. Dana Kishore said Shukla had actively promoted campaigns on tuberculosis eradication, drug abuse prevention and strengthening Red Cross services across the State, noting that more than 5,000 new members had joined through recent initiatives.

On the occasion, the Governor presented awards to doctors, frequent donors, camp organisers and organisations supporting Red Cross activities through CSR initiatives. Earlier, he flagged off a blood donation awareness rally near the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Statue on NTR Marg. Organised with support from Larven Pharma, the rally saw participation from around 2,500 NCC cadets and volunteers spreading awareness across the city.
