Heavy Rains: Water Board Issues Downstream Alert As Himayatsagar Receives Inflows
Officials step up monitoring and flood preparedness amid renewed rainfall
Hyderabad: With the Himayatsagar receiving inflows after the recent spells of rain, and Osmansagar also expected to get fresh water soon, the HMWS&SB on Sunday issued an alert for downstream areas. Himayatsagar was receiving 800 cusecs of water on Sunday.
Officials started patrolling in catchment areas and began studying measures for the operation of reservoir gates and inter-departmental coordination to implement flood management protocols. Board managing director K. Ashok Reddy visited Himayatsagar and instructed engineering officials to monitor the water level in the lakes, inflows from catchment areas, and turbidity levels.
With the India Meteorological Department (IMD)- Hyderabad issuing a yellow alert for rainfall, revenue, police and municipal officials were drafted to prepare effective flood management in downstream areas of the twin reservoirs, while the water board will focus on structural safety.
