Will Not Tolerate Any Attack on Right to Vote: Naini

Warangal:Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy demanded an independent and comprehensive inquiry into allegations of illegal changes and deletions in electoral rolls. He said the Congress would not tolerate any attempt to undermine the right to vote, the foundation of democracy.

Naini participated in a protest organised by the Hanamkonda DCC on Monday in support of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘vote theft’ campaign, along with Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya and Parkal MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy.

Congress workers took out a massive rally from the Arts College auditorium to the collectorate. They later staged a protest outside the collectorate and burnt an effigy, demanding action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Naini said every stage of the electoral process, from preparation of voter rolls to counting of votes, should be transparent to maintain public confidence. Parkal MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy said that if allegations of irregularities in electoral rolls were found to be true, they would amount to an attack on democracy. He demanded that the Election Commission transparently address concerns over its functioning.

MP Kadiyam Kavya alleged that the BJP government was pushing public sector enterprises towards privatisation. She criticised the Centre’s policies concerning the Railways, LIC and BSNL. She also alleged that BJP leaders were limiting themselves to press conferences on Warangal’s development and said people were aware of the role of various parties in projects such as Mamnoor Airport.

Naini, Revuri and Kavya submitted a complaint to the district collector seeking a comprehensive inquiry into alleged illegal changes and deletions in electoral rolls and action against those responsible.

They also demanded transparent responses from the Election Commission to every allegation to prevent doubts among the public about the electoral system. Similar protests were held by Congress workers at district headquarters across the erstwhile Warangal district.
