Welfare Schemes Aim To Brighten Lives of Poor: Ponguleti

HANAMKONDA: Revenue and housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the government’s objective was to ensure food security and provide every eligible poor family with a house.

Ponguleti, along with Warangal MP Kadiam Kavya, MLC Baswaraju Saraiah, MLAs Nayini Rajender Reddy and K.R. Nagaraj and Collector Chahat Bajpai, distributed smart ration cards to beneficiaries.

Speaking at a smart ration card distribution programme at Ambedkar Bhavan in Hanamkonda on Saturday, The minister said the government was implementing several welfare measures, including the supply of fine rice, free electricity, Indiramma houses and educational support. He said 4.50 lakh Indiramma houses had been sanctioned across the State, while another 2.50 lakh houses were being provided in the second phase. The government would continue its efforts until every eligible poor family had a house, he said.

The new smart ration cards carry QR codes, enabling beneficiaries to obtain essential commodities from ration shops in nearby areas, Ponguleti said.

He said the government was focusing on development alongside welfare and announced that an underground drainage project costing around Rs.5,700 crore was being taken up in Warangal.

Kadiam Kavya said the government was working to accelerate Warangal’s development through major projects, including Mamnoor airport, the railway coach factory, the Mega Textile Park and the underground drainage project.

MLAs Nayini Rajender Reddy and K.R. Nagaraj said the government was according high priority to the welfare of the poor and weaker sections.
