Weekend Rush Increases Amid Heavy Rain in Hyderabad
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places across Telangana through September 4. Strong surface winds of 30-40 kmph are likely on Sunday.
Hyderabad: Rain in several parts of the city on Saturday evening added to the weekend rush, with showers reported across multiple neighbourhoods as people headed for an evening out. The city’s GHMC gauges recorded 12.3 mm rainfall at Rajendranagar, the highest on Saturday. Charminar recorded 10.8 mm, Musheerabad 8.8 mm and Bandlaguda 8 mm, while Rajendranagar (ARS) received 7.8 mm. Several locations in Bandlaguda, Ibrahimpatnam and Abdullapurmet recorded 7.5 mm.
The city remained partly cloudy and breezy, with the IMD recording a maximum temperature of 31.1°C and minimum of 23.9°C. While the main IMD observation station recorded no rainfall, individual GHMC gauges registered showers across the city.
Across Telangana, Pargi in Vikarabad recorded the highest rainfall at 17 mm, followed by Jharasangam in Sangareddy at 16.5 mm and Kondurg at 13 mm. Munipally recorded 11.3 mm, while several other districts also received rainfall. The weather cames as a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-north Odisha coasts persisted and was expected to move west-northwestwards over the next 48 hours, IMD said.
