Hyderabad: Summer in Telangana is expected to bring more than just hot afternoons this year, with nights likely to remain warmer than usual. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its seasonal outlook for March to May, has forecast above-normal minimum temperatures across peninsular regions, including Telangana, along with more heatwave days.

For Hyderabad, this means the usual drop in temperature after sunset may not provide relief. Doctors warn that warmer nights reduce the body’s chance to recover from daytime heat, leading to disturbed sleep, tiredness, headaches and increased strain, especially for children, older adults and those with health conditions.

Experts point to the urban heat island effect, where concrete, glass and traffic trap heat during the day and release it slowly at night. Residents say they already feel the change, with air conditioning becoming unavoidable even in March. Urban planners stress the need for more shade, trees and ventilation to counter rising night-time heat.
