Warangal: The National Investigation Agency on Sunday arrested former Maoist leader and social activist Gade Inna Reddy, also known as Gade Innaiah, 64, and conducted raids at his residence and orphanage in Regadi Thanda village of Zaffargadh mandal in Jangaon district, citing alleged links with the banned CPI Maoist and for inciting anti-government sentiments.
NIA officials carried out the searches around 11 am using four vehicles and seized several documents and electronic devices. Innaiah has been booked under Crime No. RC-04/2025/NIA/HYD. The charges include Section 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 13 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.
According to officials, Innaiah’s speeches were intended to further Maoist activities and allegedly incited the audience to participate in an armed revolution against the Indian government and security forces. The agency claimed it possesses video evidence of him delivering provocative speeches at a memorial meeting for deceased Maoist leader Katta Ramachandra Reddy, alias Vikalp. Officials said around 150 to 200 people were present at the meeting where the alleged remarks were made.
The arrest followed heightened surveillance of Innaiah’s activities. He had recently travelled to Chhattisgarh to meet the family members of slain Maoist leader Hidma and had appeared in several YouTube interviews. In these videos, he allegedly made derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister and Union home minister Amit Shah. He also publicly criticised ‘Operation Kakar’, describing it as a conspiracy by the Central government.
Innaiah is a known figure associated with the Telangana movement and a former member of the People’s War Group. For the past decade, he has been running the ‘Mall Illu Prajadharana’ orphanage in Zaffargadh mandal, which provides shelter to about 200 children.
The search operation was led by deputy superintendent of police Kaki Rahul Teja under the supervision of local revenue officials. It is learnt that during the NIA raid, children from the orphanage briefly tried to prevent officials from taking Innaiah away. He has since been shifted to Hyderabad and will be produced before the NIA Special Court.
NIA officials produced Innaiah before the NIA court in Nampally following his arrest. The court remanded him to 14 days' judicial custody, and he has been shifted to Chanchalguda jail.
