Senior CPI(M) Leader Sarampalli Malla Reddy— Image By Arrangement

WARANGAL: Veteran farmers’ leader, senior CPI(M) leader and former All India Kisan Sabha vice-president Sarampalli Malla Reddy died while undergoing treatment at Nims hospital in Hyderabad in the early hours of Monday. He was 88.

A native of Narsampet in Warangal district, Malla Reddy spent several decades raising issues concerning farmers and the agricultural sector. He played a key role in farmers’ movements and was associated with the farmers’ movement for several years.

Farmers’ organisation leaders, CPI(M) leaders, supporters and members of the public expressed grief over his death.

His mortal remains will be shifted to Makineni Basava Punnaiah Bhavan near RTC crossroads in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning and kept there from 8 am until the afternoon to enable people to pay their last respects. The final rites will be performed thereafter.
