Two Killed, 15 Injured In Srisailam Highway Crash
Two people were killed and 15 injured, 12 critically, when a speeding pilgrim vehicle collided with a bike and rammed into a tree on the Srisailam highway.
Two persons died and 15 others suffered serious injuries after a multi‑utility vehicle (MUV) hit a bike and rammed into a tree on the Srisailam highway at Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district on Monday morning. The MUV, carrying pilgrims returning to Hyderabad after darshan at Srisailam, met with the accident around 9.15 am.
The driver, Husniah, was estimated to be travelling at over 110 kmph when he first hit a bike and then rammed into a tree, Eegalapenta station house officer K. Jayanna said. The deceased were identified as Aman Gupta, a passenger in the MUV, and bike rider Harsha, 39, who succumbed later at hospital.
On being alerted by passers‑by, police rushed to rescue trapped passengers, some of whom were shouting for help as the doors were stuck, Jayanna said. Three ambulances and police vehicles were used to shift the injured to Achampet government hospital. Police later shifted Harsha’s body to Nagarkurnool government hospital for post‑mortem and informed his family in Amalapuram.
Police said Aman Gupta, from Uttar Pradesh, had arrived from Gwalior at Kacheguda railway station on September 19 and booked a taxi (TS 04 UB 1403) to Srisailam. He was returning to Hyderabad when the accident occurred. Of the 15 injured, 12 are stated to be in critical condition. Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving and are investigating.
