Tummidihatti Will Not Happen, Medigadda Only Option: BRS
Both are looking at political gains from a created controversy
HYDERABAD: Senior BRS leader and former MP Boianapalli Vinod Kumar on Wednesday said the Congress and the BJP launched a “fresh political drama” over Telangana’s plans for a barrage at Tummidihatti on Pranahita river.
“Both are looking at political gains from a created controversy. The original Pranahita-Chevella project that proposed during erstwhile Andhra Pradesh required a 152 metre tall barrage at Tummidihatti. But the then Congress government in Maharashtra did not agree,” he said.
Later, the BRS government too pursued the issue with Maharashtra but the latter did not agree resulting in redesigning of the proposal as Kaleshwaram project. “This being the situation, the Congress government here has no option, but to repair the Medigadda barrage and supply water from the Kaleshwaram project for irrigation and drinking water needs across Telangana,” he said.
