Treasure Trove From 194 Countries Go on Display
Guinness record holder Krishna Kumar showcases currencies from 194 countries and 4,000 rare stamps
Hyderabad: A historical exhibition featuring coins and currency notes from different countries, ancient Indian coins, 4,000 rare stamps, antique artefacts and photographs of 400 historical personalities was organised by four-time Guinness World Record holder Dr Pendem Krishna Kumar here on Friday.
The exhibition included coins and currency notes from 194 countries, along with coins from the Nizam period to the present. Stamps featuring Indian trains and flights, including scented stamps, and coins from countries such as Vietnam, Georgia, Greenland and Zimbabwe were also displayed.
Krishna Kumar said he organised the exhibition to help students learn about history, society and mythology through old objects and photographs.
He said he had portrayed 400 historical, social and mythological characters to help children understand their contributions. He also wanted students to learn about freedom fighters and historical personalities by seeing these characters.
"I have been contributing to this field for the past 34 years. I started collecting coins 15 years ago. Some were collected during my visits to different places, while others were purchased through auctions," he said.
Students who visited the exhibition said they learnt about different types of coins and currencies used across the world.
Retired principal Bhupathi said such exhibitions help children develop creativity and learn about different countries, their currencies and historical personalities. Another visitor, G. Bhagawan Das, said it would improve students' general knowledge and help them understand how coins were used in the past.
