Training Plays Crucial Role In Police Officer’s Career: DGP
Telangana DGP C.V. Anand said physical training, leadership, ethics and investigative skills are essential for developing effective police officers.
Physical training is the foundation of a police officer’s career and plays a crucial role in shaping disciplined, competent and effective policing, said DGP C.V. Anand while presenting medals to the winners of the 5th Police Sports and Games, on Wednesday.
Anand while interacting with 112 probationary Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) undergoing training at the R.B.V.R.R. Telangana Police Academy, spoke about how leadership is different from "bosses and titles", and the 10 most important qualities of leadership.
The DGP explained to the participants that a police officer needed more than the knowledge of laws. Leadership, humane approach, investigative skills, technological awareness, physical fitness and effective communication with citizens were equally important.
“The ultimate objective of policing is to ensure safety and provide timely justice to citizens. The probationary DSPs should grow into responsible leaders capable of meeting the changing requirements of policing,” Anand explained.
Specially focusing on ethics, DGP spoke about the mistakes being committed by young officers, how reputations are important and are to be protected in a long 30+ years of service.
The DGP advised probationers to develop a thorough understanding of the challenges they would face after assuming field responsibilities, particularly in dealing with public, crime investigation, enforcement of laws and the use of technology in policing.
Telangana Police Academy director Abhilasha Bisht said the DSPs’ Professional Course has 112 trainees, including 74 men and 38 women.
Approximately 10-month-long programme combines indoor and outdoor training, covering legal knowledge, investigation skills, physical fitness, leadership and decision-making, Abhilasha said.
The curriculum includes Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), criminal laws and criminology, besides specialised modules on crime investigation, model policing, property-related offences and financial crimes, Abhilasha added.
DGP also gave away prizes to the winners of the 5th Telangana Police Sports and Games Meet–2026, Cluster-C, held at the RBVRR Telangana Police Academy in the three day competition that concluded on Wednesday. More than 700 police personnel, from constable level to IPS officers, participated in badminton, lawn tennis and table tennis competitions.
Along with DGP C.V. Anand, R.B.V.R.R. Telangana Police Academy director Abhilasha Bisht, IG (P&L) Gajarao Bhupal, deputy directors Chetana and Muralidhar, and other senior officers and academy staff and trainee officers attended the programme.
