The incidents took place in separate occurrences, highlighting the urgent need for stronger protective measures for children.
Warangal: An eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by two of her relatives, including a minor, over the past week in Regonda mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. The first assault occurred mid-week at the victim’s residence. The matter came to light only after the second assault on Sunday evening.
In Sunday’s assault, a 21-year-old relative of the victim allegedly lured the girl to his residence while her parents were working in agricultural fields. Upon their return, the parents found the child in a state of severe emotional distress.
When her parents asked her, the girl revealed the details of Sunday’s assault and further disclosed that her 16-year-old relative had committed a similar act against her two days prior.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim's parents, the Regonda police shifted the girl to a government hospital. Police officials have recorded the statements of the parents and the survivor under standard protocols.
The 21-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday, while the 16-year-old juvenile was apprehended and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. The police have registered cases under relevant sections of the BNS and the Pocso Act.
