Time for SIR Claims Ends, Notices Will Continue Till Nov. 5: CEO
Technical issues hamper Form 6, 7 and 8 submissions as the claims window closes
Hyderabad: The deadline for filing claims and objections under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) ended on Wednesday, even as voters complained of glitches while trying to submit Forms 6, 7 and 8 online.
Some voters sought an extension of the deadline, saying their applications were rejected by the software. They complained of problems in opening the CEO Telangana website, captcha verification and submission of applications.
“As it was the last date, I faced the glitches for hours while applying for the Form-8. At first it was not opening. However, when it opened and OTP was submitted, we got a message that captcha expired. Either we had to start the entire process once again or we got a blank website page,” said Waseem Akram, a law student from Karimnagar.
SIR volunteers who assisted voters in filling the forms also sought more time, citing glitches and technical issues over the past two to three days.
“Given the fact that digital applications have caused hardships to people for at least the past couple of days, the poll authorities should have provided further scope to voters, who couldn’t file Forms 6, 7 and 8,” argued Advocate MA Mujeeb Ayyub, SIR activist.
Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that after the SIR exercise is completed in Telangana, the window for submitting Forms 6 and 8 would reopen.
“Once the notice phase/disposal of claims and objections is completed on November 5, those who missed may apply. Moreover, they need not worry about submitting the declaration then and the process will continue,” he said.
The CEO reiterated that the October 7 deadline applied only to the submission of claims and objections. Poll officials will continue to accept documents related to SIR notices and distribute the nearly one lakh notices that remain undelivered.
"For those who did not receive notices, we shall continue to distribute them. This will continue along with accepting documents related to notices," the official added.
