Three Women Labourers Killed As Coal Truck Hits Stationary Jeep

ADILABAD: Three women labourers were killed and 15 others, including men, were injured when a coal-laden lorry rammed into a stationary jeep from behind at Indaram Cross Road in Mancherial district in the early hours of Monday. The deceased were identified as Neelubai, 60, Meena, 45, and Imbli Bai, 45, all residents of Chandrapur district in Maharashtra.

According to police, about 19 labourers were travelling in the vehicle when the accident occurred. The injured were shifted to the Mancherial Government Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the vehicle had halted by the roadside as the labourers had stopped to attend to nature’s call when the lorry hit the vehicle. The group was travelling from Maharashtra to Sulthanabad to work in paddy fields. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
