Hyderabad: The Cabinet on Thursday urged the Centre to expedite approvals for the expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) Phase-II and ensure the speedy release of the loan sanctioned through the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) for the takeover of Phase-I from L&T. The Cabinet stressed that the Metro expansion project was vital to address increasing traffic congestion and cater to the transportation needs of the city’s rapidly growing population.

Briefing the media on the decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat, irrigation and civil supplies minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Council of Ministers passed a resolution requesting the Union government to accord all necessary approvals for HMR Phase-II at the earliest. The Cabinet also sought immediate disbursal of the loan proposed through the IRFC and appealed to Union ministers and BJP members of Parliament from Telangana to extend their support to the project in the larger interests of commuters.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Cabinet called upon BJP leaders from Telangana to cooperate with the state government in securing the required approvals from the Centre instead of creating obstacles to the state’s development. The Cabinet urged the Centre to facilitate all pending clearances and ensure that the sanctioned IRFC loan is released without delay in accordance with the agreement.

In another significant decision, the government launched a paperless system for conducting Cabinet meetings. From Thursday, all Cabinet meetings will be conducted under the Telangana Digital Cabinet initiative as part of the government’s efforts to promote paperless governance and digital administration.

As part of the initiative, information technology minister D. Sridhar Babu distributed special tablet devices to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and all Ministers before the meeting. The ministers also reviewed the functioning of the Digital Cabinet system.

Under the new arrangement, Cabinet agendas, notes and related documents will be made available to ministers digitally through the tablets, eliminating the need for printed papers. The government said the Telangana Digital Cabinet marks a major step towards paperless governance, with all future Cabinet meetings to be conducted entirely through digital platforms without the use of physical documents.
