BJP Legislators To Visit SCCL To Probe Rs 1,600 Crore Worth Coal Missing
Party accuses Congress of inaction under BRS influence
Hyderabad: A BJP delegation of MLAs and MLCs, led by Assembly floor leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy, will undertake a field inspection of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) coal blocks and offices on Friday to probe alleged irregularities and corruption. The move follows allegations that some 40 lakh tonnes of coal, valued at about Rs 1,600 crore, have gone missing from SCCL stockyards, raising concerns of inventory mismanagement amid severe financial stress caused by state government arrears reportedly exceeding Rs 51,500 crore.
In a statement, Reddy accused the Congress government of ignoring long-standing complaints of large-scale malpractice that surfaced during the previous BRS rule. He said the current administration, despite promising accountability and probe into past scams, has failed to order inquiries, turning Singareni into a “mine of scams.”
The delegation will visit Mancherial and conduct on-the-ground scrutiny at multiple Singareni sites. It will examine claims including the coal shortfall, discrepancies in stock records, opaque allocation of overburden tenders, financial losses from excess tenders, and alleged mismanagement in solar and power projects. The inspection will also assess the performance and losses of the longwall project, delays in compassionate appointments, functioning of the medical board, worker welfare and safety standards.
Warning that continued inaction risks SCCL’s viability, Reddy said protecting Singareni, a backbone of the state economy and a livelihood for thousands of worker families, is the delegation’s primary objective. He said the party will press for corrective measures based on findings from the field visit.
