Tension Prevails In Karimnagar After Congress, BJP Protests
The BJP later lodged a complaint with the police, seeking action against Congress workers for allegedly attempting to attack the Union minister’s office.
Karimnagar: Tense situation prevailed in Karimnagar town on Wednesday following protests and counter-protests by Congress and BJP workers, prompting heavy police deployment.
The unrest began when Congress activists, led by SUDA chairman Komatireddy Narender Reddy, staged a dharna outside Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s office, demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and protesting the arrest of AICC leader Rahul Gandhi.
Despite police barricades, Congress workers reached the minister’s office, where they raised slogans against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Meanwhile, BJP workers gathered inside the office premises. Mild tension prevailed as workers of both parties attempted to confront each other. Police intervened, used mild force to disperse the Congress protesters, and took Komatireddy Narender Reddy into custody. He was shifted to the DCP office.
As part of the nationwide protest, the District Congress Committee also staged a demonstration at the Gandhi statue. After reports of the police action, Choppadandi MLA and DCC president Medipally Satyam, Manakondur MLA Kavvampally Satyanarayana, Velchala Rajender Rao and other Congress leaders attempted to proceed to the MP’s office. Police detained them and shifted them to the DCP office.

BJP district president Gangadi Krishna Reddy, Mayor Kolagani Srinivas, Deputy Mayor Y. Sunil Rao and other leaders met Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam and submitted a representation.
In retaliation, BJP workers attempted to march towards the District Congress Committee office. Police prevented the move by detaining the protesters. BJP leaders later burnt an effigy of Rahul Gandhi.
Police deployed heavy security at the offices of both political parties, while commissioner of police Gaush Alam visited the area to monitor the law and order situation.
