KARIMNAGAR: Husnabad in Karimnagar district is set to host Telangana’s first glass bridge at Yellamma Cheruvu, with authorities targeting public opening within three months as part of a Rs 18 crore lakefront development project. The heart-shaped bridge, positioned about 20 feet above the water, is in the final stages of construction. Officials said the structure, designed to offer a “walk on air” experience, is expected to attract visitors from across the state.
Built at a cost of around Rs 5 crore, the 150-metre-long and 1.5-metre-wide bridge features high-strength transparent glass panels, allowing visitors to view the lake beneath. Engineers are conducting safety tests and installing final components to meet prescribed standards ahead of inauguration.
The project is being executed under the supervision of Backward Classes welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who has been reviewing progress and issuing directions to officials. The initiative aims to position Husnabad as a recreational destination and increase tourism-driven economic activity.
The development also includes broader beautification of the Yellamma Cheruvu precinct, modelled on Komati Cheruvu in Siddipet. Works include a Bathukamma Ghat for cultural events, landscaped gardens, greenery, and a walking track. Lighting systems and designated photo points are being installed to support visitor activity after sunset.
Municipal commissioner T. Mallikarjun Goud said, “The glass bridge construction has entered its final and most crucial phase, with the remaining works being executed at a brisk pace to ensure every technical detail meets quality standards.”
He added, “They are optimistic about completing all pending installations and safety checks within the next three months. Once the final touches are completed, the glass bridge will be opened to the public, placing Husnabad prominently on Telangana’s tourism map and drawing visitors from across the state.”
