Telangana: Two UoH Professors Win JC Bose Grant

HYDERABAD: Two senior faculty members of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) have been awarded the J.C. Bose Grant by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) for research spanning artificial intelligence, optical communication and mitochondrial biology.
Prof. Rajadurai Chandrasekar of the School of Chemistry will work on AI-enabled soft materials for programmable optical communication devices. The project aims to use AI-driven soft materials to develop programmable devices for advanced optical communication.
Prof. Naresh Babu V. Sepuri of the department of biochemistry, School of Life Sciences, will study the functional differences among mitochondrial subpopulations and their role in metabolic plasticity and disease. The five-year project will examine how these mitochondrial populations are formed, maintained and communicate with cells, with implications for metabolic diseases, ageing and organelle biology.
Introduced by ANRF in 2025 as the successor to the J.C. Bose National Fellowship, the grant supports senior researchers with established scientific records to pursue ambitious research.
Each grant provides ₹25 lakh annually for five years, amounting to ₹1.25 crore in research support over the term, besides an institutional overhead of ₹1 lakh per year. The grant can be availed until the researcher turns 68. If a recipient retires during the grant period, the research can continue provided the host institution accommodates the principal investigator.
