Hyderabad:Tourism minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Monday discussed with a South Korean delegation a proposal to organise a Telangana–Korea Cultural Festival here on October 25, apart from measures to enhance cooperation in tourism and culture.

The delegation, led by Hwang Ilyong, director of the Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI) and counsellor (culture and press) at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, met the minister to explore avenues for expanding bilateral engagement in tourism, culture and heritage.

Rao welcomed the proposal, saying the festival would showcase cultural heritage, performing arts, music, dance and cuisine of both regions, while strengthening people‑to‑people ties and boosting tourism. He noted the growing popularity of Korean culture in India, particularly among youth, with dramas and entertainment content gaining wide viewership on OTT platforms. This trend, he said, presents opportunities for tourism promotion, cultural exchange and creative collaboration.

The meeting was attended by Kim Kanghun, Head of Administration, KCCI; Im Hwije, Head of Public Relations, KCCI; and Suresh Chukkapalli, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
