HYDERABAD: Ambulances struggled to move around KBR Park after the one‑way traffic system came into effect on Tuesday, with emergency vehicles taking up to two minutes to cover even 500 metres at some points in the morning. About 10 major hospitals are located in and around the stretch, making smooth ambulance movement crucial.

“All hospitals in the vicinity have been alerted about the one‑way system and advised to identify alternative routes for ambulance movement,” said Kajal Singh. “So far, on day one, nothing serious occurred,” she added, noting that measures were in place to assist emergency vehicles if required.

Ambulance drivers were given the traffic control room mobile number to seek help if they faced difficulties navigating the new routes. Singh said two drones were being used to obtain a bird’s‑eye view of vehicular movement, spot congestion and guide ambulances through appropriate routes.

Meanwhile, officials began replacing signboards along the stretch after commuters complained the lettering was too small. Larger boards have been ordered and are expected to be installed by Wednesday.
