HYDERABAD: The state government has set a three-month deadline to complete work on the Telangana Public School (TPS) at Manchal, Vangoor and Polkampally after the recently inaugurated institution at Arutla received a positive response and prompted demands for similar institutions across the state.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asked the Telangana Education Commission (TEC) to complete the three schools under the pilot project within the deadline. The commission has prepared a time-bound plan with increased supervision of construction, quality and completion schedules, according to a release.

Officials were stated to be working on modern classrooms, smart classrooms, digital and science laboratories, libraries, playgrounds and a clean campus at each school. According to TEC, the government wants to provide students in government schools with a “corporate-level educational environment” and access to quality education.

TEC chairman Akunuri Murali is supervising the pilot project and three commission members have been assigned responsibility for the remaining schools: Dr Charakonda Venkatesh for the Vangoor TPS, Joshna Shivareddy Manchal TPS, and Prof P.L. Visweswara Rao Polkampally TPS. Sources said Murali’s resignation from the commission had not yet been accepted.

The commission has divided construction work among school management committee members under the leadership of each principal. Teams of three SMC members each will review progress, quality and the facilities required at each site.

SMC members are to meet on Wednesdays and Saturdays to assess the work and the commission has fixed targets for each stage so that the schools are ready within the three-month period.

The government plans to extend TPS to all districts if the pilot project succeeds. The TEC said timely completion of the three schools would support the state’s plan to improve the quality of education in government schools.
