HYDERABAD: Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) hosted Dr Harish Seethamraju, medical director of the lung transplantation programme at the Mount Sinai Hosoital, New York, on Tuesday for academic discussions on lung transplantation.

He reviewed patients being evaluated for lung transplantation and discussed patient selection, preoperative optimisation, perioperative care, postoperative management, infection prevention, rehabilitation and long-term follow-up.

Dr Seethamraju, an internationally recognized expert in lung transplantation and advanced lung failure, held case-based discussions with the multidisciplinary Nims lung transplant team comprising Dr Amaresh Rao and Dr Gopal from cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, Dr Narender and Dr Rakesh from pulmonology, Dr Archana from anesthesiology and the physiotherapy team.

The interaction focused on strengthening coordination among the various specialties involved in transplantation and improving protocol-driven care for patients with advanced lung failure at Nims.
