HYDERABAD: The state government officially rolled out guidelines under the New Employees Health Scheme (NEHS), raising the cashless medical coverage limit from ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh per episode of illness, with no limit on the total number of episodes.

According to a government order issued on August 22, the guidelines came into force with effect from July 17. As per the guidelines, the financial limit for standard treatment is ₹3 lakh and if medical expenses exceed ₹3 lakh, cases up to ₹10 lakh can be approved by the Cabinet sub‑committee led by Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. Cases exceeding ₹10 lakh will require approval from the Employees Health Care Trust (EHCT) Board.

The scheme covers 1,816 approved medical and surgical packages. Treatment includes in‑patient care, outpatient procedures and follow‑ups across a network of 886 private and 114 government‑empanelled hospitals. With this scheme, over 17 lakh employees are likely to benefit. The scheme is sustainable through co‑contributions, where eligible employees and pensioners contribute 1.5% of their basic pay or basic pension, and the state government provides a matching contribution.
