Telangana HC Directs State to File Response on Road Side Statues at Suryapet
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin issued the direction while hearing a PIL filed by 97-year-old freedom fighter Bandla Pullareddy.
The Telangana High Court on Thursday directed the state government to file its response to a public interest litigation (PIL) regarding the presence of unauthorised statues and structures along the Miryalaguda–Huzurnagar main road in Suryapet district.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin issued the direction while hearing a PIL filed by 97-year-old freedom fighter Bandla Pullareddy.
The petitioner contended that several statues and structures erected on government land along the roadside had not been removed despite an ongoing road-widening project. According to the plea, the authorities were selectively modifying the approved road alignment to avoid disturbing certain statues .
The petitioner alleged that repeated representations seeking the removal of unauthorised statues and constructions had failed to elicit any response from the authorities. Taking note of the submissions, the bench instructed government counsel to obtain detailed information from the officials concerned and place the same before the court on the next date of hearing.
