Laxman also highlighted the distribution of free food grains to over 81 crore beneficiaries and the healthcare benefits provided under Ayushman Bharat
Hyderabad: Rajya Sabha member Dr K. Laxman on Saturday said that the 12 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have witnessed unprecedented progress in welfare, infrastructure development, women’s empowerment and transparent governance.
Addressing the ‘VARTA’ Media Interaction Programme organized by the Press Information Bureau, Hyderabad, Dr Laxman highlighted flagship initiatives such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, PM SVANidhi, PM Mudra Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, which have improved the lives of crores of people, particularly the poor, women and marginalized sections.
He noted that more than 11 crore women have benefited from the Ujjwala scheme, while the Swachh Bharat Mission has enhanced dignity and safety by ensuring access to sanitation facilities. He also highlighted the distribution of free food grains to over 81 crore beneficiaries and the healthcare benefits provided under Ayushman Bharat.
Dr Laxman stated that technology-driven governance, combined with the JAM (Jan Dhan–Aadhaar–Mobile) framework, has ensured the transparent delivery of benefits directly to beneficiaries, thereby eliminating middlemen and reducing corruption.
He added that nearly 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty through targeted welfare interventions over the past decade.
Highlighting Telangana’s progress, Dr Laxman stated that while the State had around 5,000 kilometres of National Highways over several decades, an additional 5,000 kilometres of National Highways have been developed during the last twelve years with an investment exceeding Rs.1.20 lakh crore.
He noted that Telangana has received substantial support for railway infrastructure, including significant allocations in successive Union Budgets. He highlighted the redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station, development of the Cherlapalli Terminal, establishment of a Railway Manufacturing Unit at Kazipet, and expansion of railway connectivity to Medak, Siddipet and Komuravelli.
He further stated that Telangana has benefited from multiple Vande Bharat Express services and proposed high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune. He also pointed to the Centre’s support for new airport projects in Mamnoor and Adilabad, along with several other infrastructure initiatives aimed at accelerating the State’s economic growth.
Stating that the Government’s vision is guided by the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” Dr Laxman said the country is moving steadily towards the goal of a Viksit Bharat through inclusive growth, infrastructure development and welfare-oriented governance.
