Hyderabad: On the occasion of Muharram, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar visited the historic Bibi Ka Alawa at Dabeerpura in Darulshifa, on Saturday. He offered the 'Dhatti' and performed special prayers.

Subsequently, along with MLC Mirza Riyaz ul Hassan Effendi, he inaugurated the trial walk of the elephant 'Sridevi', which stands as the main attraction of the procession. During this visit, he conducted a field-level inspection of the security arrangements in coordination with senior officials.

Later, he interacted with the organizers of the procession and requested their full cooperation with the police regarding security measures.

Speaking to the media, Sajjanar stated that the Hyderabad police has taken stringent precautionary measures to maintain law and order in the city and to prevent any untoward incidents during Muharram.

As part of these measures, he mentioned that robust security arrangements comprising approximately 2,000 police personnel are being deployed for the 'Bibi Ka Alam' procession, and traffic restrictions will be in effect along the procession route.

The Commissioner of Police explained that the primary objective of this 'trial run' is to conduct a ground-level assessment of the elephant's behavior amidst massive crowds, to review the condition of the procession route, and to evaluate the need for any additional security arrangements.

Recalling that the citizens have always extended excellent cooperation to the police during all previous events in the city, the Police Commissioner appealed to everyone to provide the same level of support this time as well, ensuring the peaceful and successful conclusion of the entire program.

He expressed optimism that, with the support of the public and the organizers, the procession will be completed peacefully, thereby reflecting the city's unique cultural ethos of 'Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb'.
