Telangana Gets Its First All-Women Police Band in Malkajgiri
The team underwent specialised training for ceremonial parades

Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri commissionerate formed the first women police band team of the Telangana police. The women personnel have been provided three types of special uniforms and necessary musical instruments. A ceremonial black-and-white uniform has also been designed for their participation in official programmes, celebrations and parades.
Malkajgiri police commissioner B. Sumathi said: “This is the first-ever women police band, with 11 women personnel taking part in the initiative. She said the team underwent nine months of training and demonstrated that women can excel alongside men in every field. The personnel were trained to perform various songs and compositions and delivered performances on par with their male counterparts, showcasing their talent, confidence and discipline.”
The team underwent specialised training for ceremonial parades, police programmes, government and civic events and other official functions. The personnel were trained to perform Hindi, Telugu and Western songs besides various band compositions. They were also trained to play instruments including the saxophone, trumpet, bass drum and side drum. During the programme, the women police band performed patriotic songs, drawing appreciation from officers and police personnel present.
Following the programme, commissioner Sumathi honoured 83 police personnel from different ranks with medals. The personnel had been selected for the Mahonnatha Seva, Uttama Seva and Seva awards on the occasions of Republic Day on January 26 and Telangana Formation Day on June 2.
