Telangana Extends Bar Timings in CURE for FIFA World Cup Final and Play-Off

Hyderabad:The government has permitted bars, clubs, tourism hotels and microbreweries in the Telangana Core Urban Region (CURE) to remain open beyond normal business hours for the Fifa World Cup third-place play-off between France and England until 4.30 am on July 19, and final between Argentina and Spain until 3 am on July 20.

The order grants a special extension of operating hours, while all other rules and regulations remain unchanged. Restrictions similar to those enforced on New Year’s Eve will remain in place despite the relaxation. Police will maintain zero tolerance for violations, including drunk driving.

In an order issued by the revenue (excise-II) department on Friday, the government authorised the commissioner of prohibition and excise to grant an extension of serving hours to 2B bars, CI-clubs, tourism development corporation establishments (TD1 and TD2) and licensed microbreweries, subject to compliance with all applicable rules.

Hospitality sector representatives welcomed the move. Anil Bang of a well-known outlet said, “The government’s approval gives us an opportunity to host the screening on a world-class scale.”

Hyderabad Restro Lounges Association representative Ketan Agarwal said, “The decision is a significant step forward for the industry and reflects its confidence in the sector.” He noted: “How establishments operate during the extended hours will influence future policy discussions. This is an opportunity to show that a vibrant nightlife can coexist with responsible business practices, public safety and civic discipline.”

Residents welcomed the decision. Ruben Benedict, employee with a MNC professional services network, said, “The restrictions had largely confined us to watching matches at home. The government’s decision has brought great cheer, and we are already making plans for the final.”

Pubs and breweries across the city are making arrangements, with officials maintaining that enforcement of safety and law-and-order measures will continue during the extended hours.
