El Nino Monsoon Set to Hit 80% of Telangana Villages

Hyderabad:An impending agricultural crisis is all set to hit 80 per cent of villages in the state this kharif crop season with the monsoon rain all but pulling a disappearing act, according to the Contingency Plan for Vanakalam 2026, released by the state government on Thursday.
The report said 8,831 villages will either be moderately affected, or were vulnerable because of the predicted poor rainfall. The rest of the 2,298 villages are not expected to be spared — they will experience the fallout to a lesser extent.
The highest number of vulnerable villages are in Khammam at 189 followed by KB Asifabad district with 151, while Vikarabad and Nalgonda districts top the list for moderately affected category with 468 villages each.
The Contingency Plan, which also took into account the hydro-climatic assessment, further classified the state’s districts into three - severely dry, moderately dry, mildly dry, and mildly wet - categories.
