Hyderabad: Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy on Sunday asked underground Maoist leaders and cadres to return to mainstream and lead a peaceful, secure, and dignified life with their families.

In a statement, the DGP said that over the past two years, 588 Maoists — leaders and cadres at various levels — had rejoined normal life through the sustained efforts of the state police. All of them had availed the benefits under the government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.
Shivadhar Reddy said the surrendered Maoists were living safely in their native villages with their families. The positive outcomes of this policy had inspired underground Maoists from other states to surrender before the Telangana police and reintegrate into society. This demonstrates the credibility, compassion, and effectiveness of the rehabilitation initiatives implemented by the Telangana government, he said.
The DGP renewed the appeal to the underground Maoists— including the 15 remaining cadres from Telangana— to come forward and embrace a peaceful future. Those who choose to join the mainstream will be extended immediate assistance and benefits.
