Tea Stall Owner Dies After Suicide Attempt At Bheemgal Police Station

NIZAMABAD: Tea stall owner Polasa Sudhakar, 58, who attempted suicide on the premises of Bheemgal police station on Monday, died while undergoing treatment at Government General Hospital in Nizamabad on Tuesday.
According to police, Sudhakar ran a tea stall near the Bheemgal bus stand and was reportedly upset over alleged harassment by several persons. Police said he had allegedly been threatened by two journalists, who were reportedly sent by the owner of a grocery shop opposite his stall after Sudhakar stopped purchasing cigarettes from the shop.
Police also said they had registered a petty case against Sudhakar after finding his tea stall open beyond 10.30 pm during a routine inspection.
Bheemgal police and locals rushed to his aid after he attempted suicide on Monday morning and shifted him to hospital. Sudhakar gave a dying declaration to a judge before he died on Tuesday. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Nizamabad commissioner of police P. Sai Chaitanya said the police department had no connection with the incident and maintained that Sudhakar had come to the police station on his own before attempting suicide.
A bandh was observed in Bheemgal on Tuesday in protest against the incident and seeking justice for Sudhakar’s family members.
Meanwhile, Balkonda MLA V. Prashanth Reddy was placed under house arrest in Hyderabad while he was trying to reach Bheemgal to console Sudhakar’s family members. BJP leaders staged a protest at the Government General Hospital in Nizamabad over the death.
Political parties and others demanded stringent action against Bheemgal police sub-inspector Tirupati, alleging that he had failed to control the situation.
