Talasani Slams Govt Over Rs 6 Lakh Beneficiary Share for Indiramma Houses in City

The BRS on Thursday slammed the Congress government for saying that beneficiaries of the Indiramma houses programme in Hyderabad must pay `6 lakh per unit as their share for the houses, and demanded that the Congress must keep its election promise of providing free houses to the poor.

Addressing a press conference, former minister and BRS Legislature Party deputy leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav also demanded that the government immediately allot the 39,000 double-bedroom houses completed in the city during the BRS rule which are currently lying vacant in the city.

Recalling that the BRS government built one lakh double-bedroom houses in Greater Hyderabad, he questioned why the Congress government failed to build even a single house in the city during its 30 months in office. The BRS government, he said, provided free double-bedroom houses, including in prime locations in the city around the Secretariat by selecting beneficiaries through draw of lots.

“The Congress government now says it will build only 7,000 to 8,000 Indiramma houses and is asking the beneficiaries to contribute `6 lakh for each house,” he said. “We will welcome it if the government builds houses and gives them free to the poor. But collecting money from the beneficiaries is simply not acceptable.”
